Teacher's Retreat

Need a little time away... Maybe it's time to retreat!

Four of children are teachers and we highly respect and appreciate people who choose this profession. It is often a thankless, stressful job, particularly with current budgets cuts. For this reason, we offer special rates for the people who are preparing our children for the future.

We recently hosted a retreat for a small group of teachers from Morehead City, NC who wanted a quiet place to 'pitch their tents'.

We had the perfect spot by our creek. While they set up camp, we delivered firewood.

Tents go up so quickly. When we camped years ago, it was much more complicated. The tent and poles took up most of our cargo space.

Tents are up...Susan and Samantha are relaxing, anticipating a big campfire. This group was on a tight schedule so I did a little shopping for them. Hot dogs and smores.... camping... the good life.

Rodney wanted to show us his new hammock. It's very compact and apparently very comfy..

So if are you ready to 'rough it'... we have the place. And if camping in not your style, we have a riverfront house with all the comforts of home. (and just maybe a few extra)

At the very least, find some time to relax and unwind.

Retreat to North Carolina

RiverMist, located in the foothills of North Carolina, provides a peaceful, safe environment for rest, relaxation, and renewal. It is a place for individuals or small groups to retreat from the everyday world and enjoy the peace, joy, and healing that time alone in nature can provide.

There are 125 acres of walking trails to explore or you may prefer to spend the time sitting on one of the large meditation rocks. Solitary time in the natural world can have a profound and long lasting effect on individuals who are willing to embark on this sacred journey.

Many people find solace, sitting by a large body of water or a simple flowing stream. Nothing is more calming than the sound of flowing water. It’s no accident that we have placed hammocks along the creek. Sometimes breathing exercises turn into a nice long nap!

Retreats designed according to individual requests.

Sabbatical in North Carolina

Do you need some time alone? Have you been looking for a place to renew and rejuvenate your creativity?

Do you need time to finish a project, a book, a work of art? Would you like some time to wander in nature and forget about deadlines.

Sooner or later everyone needs a little time away. A time without phones, computers and obligations.

Sometimes we just need some time away to remember who we are. Or in the words of Oriah Mountain Dreamer in her outstanding work, The Invitation

It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for
and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.

I want to know if you can be alone
with yourself
and if you truly like the company you keep
in the empty moments.

RiverMist is available for individual retreats for whatever period of time you desire, whether it’s a few hours or several months. The director will help you plan a retreat specific to your needs.
